Biblical Femininity (Part 3)

In continuation of this series, our teen girl's Sunday School class talked about our appearance. What others see when they meet us matters! If they meet someone sloppy, who's unkept, and has a frown on their face, they will never want to meet your Savior.

But first, we need to establish the difference between STANDARDS and CONVICTIONS.

Standards are requirements found directly in God's Word. Like:

    - no cursing

    - no stealing

    - listening to only God-pleasing music

    - marrying a Godly guy

    - no lying

These are all standards. Now convictions are a personal preference that is settled with God. And God takes these convictions seriously! Although they are a preference, convictions are something that is settled with the Lord - and He keeps tabs on what we have promised Him.

For instance, there are some ladies who do not wear makeup because they don't want to become vain while wearing makeup. That is not a standard - that is a conviction. They feel if they wore makeup, they would become vain and those ladies want no part of that.

In another example, there was a preacher friend of ours that did not play billiards or pool, because it reminded him of his past. So, he told God that he was not going to play billiards. Now billiards in and of itself is not a bad thing, but if that man had went back on his promise, then it would have been a sin for him.

With that settled, we first have to realize that modesty is not a conviction, it is a standard.

Modesty means well-arranged, seemly, and in a manner avoiding impropriety or indecency. God wants us to take time to arrange our clothing. Make sure your clothes are ironed properly, washed, and matching!

Now we can have our own styles in our wardrobe. Some might not have their ears pierced, and that's okay. Some might like to wear pink all the time, and others might enjoy wearing darker colors. But we do have to ask ourself if God is pleased in our wardrobe and styles.

In our class, we started with talking about our FACE.

    - keep in clean, washed, and moisturized every night and morning.

    - keep makeup not over-the-top, but to a minimum. Pick more neutral colors, and if you feel like you need a pop of color, lightly dust your eyelids in the correct color of eyeshadow. Not too much, though! Not an excessive amount of mascara or eyeliner, but enough to enhance the features God gave you... not to re-do them!

    - wear moisturizing face masks every so often to cleanse out your pores.

Okay, now we'll move on to HAIR.

    - use heat protectant spray.

    - cut it to a good length every so often, to keep it from getting ratty with uneven and split ends.

    Now, your FEET.

    - keep your toenails well-kept. Don't let them get too long!

    - don't let the nail polish get peeled on some places. If that happens, re-do the polish or take it off completely.

    - keep them moisturized and clean!

    Now your HANDS.

    - keep your fingernails clean.

    - take care of hangnails.

    - learn how to do good manicures.

    Lastly, your JEWELRY.

    - No excessiveness. If your beauty is found in your jewelry, then it is not God-honoring. Your beauty should be found in the way you glorify the Lord!

Whew! That was a long one! But this lesson blessed me so much. I hope it helps you too!
